15 ways to stay married for 15 years

A friend of mine posted a link to a wonderful post on Lydia Netzer's Blog and I just had to share. It is wonderful and has some really great reminders! I copied and pasted her post below or you can visit the link above. It's a must read for us married ladies :)! Enjoy!

15 Ways to Stay Married for 15 Years

Today is my fifteenth wedding anniversary. I really love Dan, and I am proud of how awesome our marriage is. We certainly haven’t killed each other yet. Hell, we haven’t even maimed each other. We have not always been perfect, but we have made two cool kids, and we have always kept it interesting. For two people as weird and intense as Dan and I are, staying together this long is a big accomplishment. I know some people are surprised.

Here we are going in to our reception. I had a big bow on the back of my dress. This is where we met.

When Dan and I got married, we were 25 years old. Now, we’re staring down the barrel of 40. Looking back I’m surprised we didn’t, as 25 year olds, self-destruct just for the heck of it. Now that we are older, we are perhaps surprisingly also wiser. Here are the things we have learned over the years, that helped us stay married and even happy for fifteen years. (Beyond that, you’re on your own. I can’t promise another 15.) Our list does not resemble the one you will find inCosmo or Ladies’ Home Journal. We have never had a regular date night, nor do we prioritize “communication” or play sex games or see a therapist. He doesn’t bring me flowers every Thursday, I don’t cook his favorite food very often. But we do have some other ideas.

1. Go to bed mad.

The old maxim that you shouldn’t go to bed mad is stupid. Sometimes you need to just go to freakin’ bed. “Let not the sun go down upon your wrath” is prefaced in the Bible by the phrase “Be angry and sin not.” So, who’s to say it doesn’t mean “Stay angry, bitches. Don’t let the sun go down on that awesome fierce wrath of yours.” Seriously. Whoever interpreted this to mean that you should stay up after midnight, tear-stained and petulant, trying to iron out some kind of overtired and breathy accord -- was stupid. Shut up, go to bed, let your husband get some sleep. In the morning, eat some pancakes. Everything will seem better, I swear.

2. Laugh if you can.

In any fight, there is one person who is really mad, and one person who isn’t that mad. That person should deflect the fight. Make a joke, do something stupid or corny, make the other person laugh. If the fight is very serious for you and you feel like you really want to plant your flag and die on this hill, fine. Do it. But if you’re fighting for entertainment, or because you’re just reacting, then you be the one to deflect. Fights are bad. Deflecting a fight whenever possible is a good idea. When you’re the one who’s being pissy and raw, and the other person helps you get out of it and brings about peace, that feels fantastic. This was a hard lesson to learn, for me. Letting Dan deflect a fight is the best thing, now. He does it really well.

3. Don’t criticize. Ever.

Here is a fact: Whatever critical thing that you are about to say to your wife is already being loudly articulated in her head. And if it’s true, she already feels like crap about it. Assuming you married someone intelligent enough to like you and sane enough to let you put a ring on it, trust that they are self-aware enough to know when they screwed up. It may feel good to you in that moment to say the critical thing, let it go ringing through the air in all its sonorous correctness, but it will feel awful to hear it. The only, only way it’s beneficial to give your wife criticism of any kind is if you’re absolutely positive she is completely unaware. And you better find the nicest, kindest way possible to tell her. And even then, good luck convincing her. Their recognition of the thing you are helpfully trying to point out will be INHIBITED, not facilitated, by your criticism. And then you’re the asshole. So be careful.

4. Be the mirror.

Your husband is the mirror in which you see yourself. And the things you say to him give him an image of himself too, which he will believe. You want him to believe it, so make it good. Be a mirror that reflects something positive: you’re smart, you’re successful, you’re fantastic in the sack, you’re a great provider, you’re the best. Can you MAKE him any of these things just by telling him he is? I don’t know, but consider this: the alternative really sucks. The things my husband says to me are 1000 times more convincing than anyone else’s opinion on earth. Don’t think he won’t believe you because you’re married and you’re contractually obligated to say nice things. He’ll believe the shitty, insulting things you say, and the gloriously positive things. Listen to Nico, girls:

5. Be proud and brag.

Let your spouse hear you talking about them in glowing terms to other people. Be foolish. Be obvious. It will mean everything. You will stay married forever.

6. Do your own thing.

Dan races bicycles. I write books. I don’t race bicycles or have any desire to race bicycles. He doesn’t write books, nor does he even read the books that I write. Seriously. And I don’t care. My opinion is that he’s the fastest, coolest most awesome bike racer ever. His opinion is that I’m the bestest, coolest writer ever. We don’t have to know all about cycling or writing in order to form these opinions -- in fact knowledge of literature or actually reading my book might damage Dan’s opinion of me as “best writer since the dawn of time.” We can still support each other without being all up in the other person’s stuff. Doing your own thing, having your own friends, being completely insanely passionate about something that the other person has no idea, really, about, is awesome. It allows your spouse to be your cheerleader, uncomplicated by knowledge or personal investment. And it means you’ll always have stuff to talk about, because you’re not overlapping all the time. You don’t have to read the same books either. You don’t have to have the same friends.

7. Have kids.

Kids stop you from being as crazy as you want to be. Because when you have kids, you can’t be that crazy.

For example, when I had kids, I stopped smoking. Left to right = Susannah, Joshilyn, Dan, Me.

8. Get really good at sex.

You’ve got all the time in the world to get really really good, not just at sex in general, but at having sex with your one particular husband. You should make it your life’s mission to become the perfect sex machine exactly for him. And he for you. There is no reason to hold back, or be embarrassed, or not ask questions, and get everything working properly. There’s absolutely no excuse for letting years drag on without becoming fully skilled, gifted sex partners for each other. It makes everything so much better. Does talking about this make you uncomfortable? How uncomfortable would it make you to know that your spouse is secretly, silently “just okay” with your sexual performance? Yeah. You want to last fifteen years, remember? That’s a long time to be mildly happy.

9. Move.

Live in different houses. In different parts of the country. Travel. Make it so that you can look back and divide up your life into the years you spent in different cities, or different houses. If you’re feeling stuck geographically or physically, you can confuse yourself into thinking you’re stuck romantically. See your husband in different places, in different contexts, in different countries even. Try it. Take him to a mountaintop and give him another look. Pretty sexy. Take him to a new city and check out his profile. Along the same lines, don’t be afraid to change personally, or let your wife change as a person. Don’t worry about “growing apart.” Be brave and evolve. Become completely different. Don’t gather moss. Stagnation is unattractive.

10. Stop thinking temporarily.

Marriage is not conditional. It is permanent. Your husband will be with you until you die. That is a given. It sounds obvious, but really making it a given is hard. You tend to think in “ifs” and “thens” even when you’ve publicly committed to forever. If he does this, I won’t tolerate it. If I do this, he’ll leave me. If I get fat. If I change jobs. If he says mean things. If he doesn’t pay more attention. It’s natural, especially in the beginning of your marriage, to keep those doubts in your head. But the sooner you can get go of the idea that marriage is temporary, and will end if certain awful conditions are met, the sooner you will let go of all kinds of conflict and stress. Yes, you may find yourself in a horrible situation where it’s absolutely necessary to get a divorce. But going into it with divorce in the back of your mind, even in the way way way back of your mind, is going to cause a lot of unnecessary angst. Accept that you’re going to stay with him. He’s going to stay with you. Inhabit that and figure out how to make THAT work, instead of living with the “what if”s and “in case of”s.

11. Do not put yourself in trouble’s way.

Leave your ex boyfriends and girlfriends alone. I’m sure you’re very trustworthy. Aren’t we all? The thing is, there’s absolutely no reason to test it. Your husband and your marriage are more valuable than any friendship. Any friendship that troubles the marriage should be over immediately. Protect it with knives and teeth, not because it’s fragile but because it’s precious. Don’t ass around with a “hall pass” or a “harmless flirtation.” Adultery isn’t an event, it’s a process with an event at the end. Don’t put your feet on a path that could lead someplace bad.

12. Make a husband pact with your friends.

The husband pact says this: I promise to listen to you complain about your husband even in the most dire terms, without it affecting my good opinion of him. I will agree with your harshest criticism, accept your gloomiest predictions. I will nod and furrow my brow and sigh when you describe him as a hideous ogre. Then when your fight is over and love shines again like a beautiful sunbeam in your life, I promise to forget everything you said and regard him as the most charming of princes once more. The husband pact is very useful because you want to be able to vent to your friend without having her actually start hating your husband. Because you don’t really mean all those things you say. And she, the swearer of the pact, knows this.

13. Bitch to his mother, not yours.

This is one I did read somewhere in a magazine, and it’s totally true. His mother will forgive him. Yours never will. If you’re a man, bitch to your friends. They expect it.

14. Be loyal.

All the crap you read in magazines about honesty, sense of humor, communication, sensitivity, date nights, couples weekends, blah blah blah can be trumped by one word: loyalty. You and your spouse are a team of two. It is you against the world. No one else is allowed on the team, and no one else will ever understand the team’s rules. This is okay. The team is not adversarial, the team does not tear its members down, the team does not sabotage the team’s success. Teammates work constantly to help and better their teammates. Loyalty means you put the other person in your marriage first all the time, and you let them put you first. Loyalty means subverting your whims or desires of the moment to better meet your spouse’s whims or desires, with the full understanding and expectation that they will be doing the same. This is the heart of everything, and it is a tricky balance. Sometimes it sways one way and some the other. Sometimes he gets to be crazy, sometimes it’s your turn. Sometimes she’s in the spotlight, sometimes you. Ups and downs, ultimately, don’t matter because the team endures.

15. Trust the person you married.

For two people who are trying to help each other, it can almost be harder to let the other person help you than it is to be the one who’s helping. It can be harder to let the other person deflect the fight than to be the one deflecting. It can be harder to believe that your husband is fully committed to a lifetime of marriage than to commit yourself. Harder to change yourself than to let the other person change. Harder to be loved than to love. Weird, but true. I’m saying this to everyone who’s newly married, and to myself: trust that person. Love them completely and let them love you. If it all goes to seed, it’s going to hurt either way. Better to have gone into it full throttle. Full throttle marriage is a thrilling ride.

Believe me when I tell you: I love this dude.

What about you? How long do you want to stay married? Do you have any good tips for staying together? Any of the above that you disagree with? Tell me.

Hope yall enjoyed her post as much as I did! Now go LOVE on your husbands :)!

On the mend!

We are slowly recovering over here, after our week of illnesses and I am slowly learning how to be a mommy to 2 under 17 months. I have finally recovered from my flu bug, and what we thought was just an AWFUL case of teething for Saylor, turned out to be Hand, Foot and Mouth. We were almost thankful for this diagnosis and the awareness that we were almost halfway through the worst of HFM. Let's just say that HFM isn't that fun, for toddler or parents... and thankfully, they usually only get it once. Whew. Glad to have that one out of the way (hopefully!).

Being a mommy to two littles ones, can be a bit tricky. Like feeding the baby, for instance. Yesterday, Saylor wanted to be in my lap while Baker was being fed. That makes for one full lap. She also wanted Baker to drink out of her sippy cup, which unfortunately landed Baker with a bonk on his head, via the sippy cup. Have I mentioned yet that Baker needs a helmet, just for protection from his sweet sister? :) Here she is, going in for probably her 100th hug of the morning.
We took Sean to the airport this morning, as he is flying out for work for a few days. We sure will miss him, especially after having him home with us this past week! My mother-in-law has had Chloe for the week while she was out for spring break, and they are heading back to SC today. Linda will be staying with us for a few days while Sean is out of town and I am thankful for the help!

Hope yall have had a fabulous weekend!

Emotions.

Something about being 100 months pregnant makes you super emotional. I am pretty sure I have experienced every emotion in the last 24 hours. Every. Single. One.

Just knowing that in 2 days I will have a new baby, sends me into a complete emotional tailspin. I go crazy cleaning and getting ready one minute, and then the next, I am a ball of tears on the floor, holding Saylor and stroking her hair.  One minute I am daydreaming about seeing his sweet face, and the next, I am scared to death that something could go wrong and pouring out prayers to our sweet Jesus.

I was driving home from Target this morning, and heard a song on the radio, and in that moment, lifted my hands to thank our Lord for the gift of a beautiful blessing growing inside of me. I then looked in my rear view mirror at my sweet first born, and fell completely apart. Emotions are gripping me at every turn.

And in the midst of writing this post, a dear friend called, and brought me back to reality. She reminded me all of this was normal. That it's okay to feel deep and cry hard. That our heart holds an amazing power to expand, to grow, to love one more just as deep and hard. That moments may be tough, but the reward is great. That these are indeed the best days of our lives. To cherish these small moments. To soak them in deep. To savor the smiles and laughter. (Thank you, friend, you are so dear to me.)

Back to cleaning, packing and organizing. Back to playing outside in the sunshine with Saylor. Back to everyday moments and smiling at the in between.

"From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another." - John 1:16

bittersweet.

Here I am, in the last week of pregnancy, and my, it is so bittersweet.

Sweet in that my body is just about at maximum capacity. Sweet in that I will appreciate sleeping comfortably, wearing regular clothes, not aching everywhere and getting myself back in shape. Sweet in that my hair will hopefully not continue to fall out in chunks, my face won't be all crazy different shades and my ankles and feet won't look like baked potatoes.

But bittersweet, still. Bittersweet in that this is most likely my last time being pregnant. That I will no longer feel the sweet flutters in the early weeks or strong kicks as the baby continues to grow. Bittersweet in that I won't be the only one in the world bonded with a sweet baby who hasn't made his appearance into the world yet. Bittersweet in that I won't have the excitement of seeing the lines on a stick and sharing the joy that a new little person will soon be joining our family. And bittersweet in that I won't have my belly to rub, knowing a beautiful blessing is growing inside of me.

It's a crazy feeling, really. All the emotion, the smiles and excitement, the joy, the fears and anxiety. The worrying, the praying, the longing to hold and see that sweet face for the first time. No experience is quite like it. I have emotions I wish I could bottle up and save forever. The anticipation. The love. Even some of the funny glances I get when walking around looking like I am about to pop.

And then the day comes. The day you meet them. And you are so fully, deeply in love. The wait is over. They are here. Another one of God's precious angels has emerged into our world. For a family to love. To cherish. To raise.

And all at once, there it is again. That feeling. The bittersweet cycle continues. Time goes too fast. They grow up too quickly. The days may be long, but the years are short. They change right in front of us with each passing moment. Time is fleeting. Little ones are learning and changing. And we long for one more time to rock them to sleep. To hold them. To sing "Jesus loves me." To make them laugh and hold them close when they cry. To make sure they know they are loved with every shred of our being.

Bittersweet. It's all so bittersweet.

KONY 2012

"at the end of my life, I want to say, that the world we've left behind is one that Gavin (and our own children) can be proud of. A place that doesn't allow Joseph Kony's and child soldiers. A place where children, no matter where they live, have a childhood free from fear." -Jason Russell

No matter what side we are on, this is something we can all agree on. Help change our world.

Things I don't want to forget...

Saylor and I have been playing all morning, and have been having so much fun! I have been thinking of how much she is learning with each passing day. She is 14 months and is changing so much.

A few of her (current) favorite things:
  • throwing a ball and chasing after it all through the house
  • rocking and snuggling with her baby dolls
  • giving her baby dolls a bottle
  • coloring (this is her first masterpiece!)
  • filling up and dumping out cups
  • goldfish!
  • playing outside... whether swinging, strolling or just being, Say loves to be outside.
  • brushing my hair or daddy's hair
  • clapping for herself and saying "yay" when she does something she's proud of
  • reading books (she has 3 favorites we read each night and 2 other favorites we read 20+ times during the day)
This is such a sweet, precious time in Saylor's life, and I don't want to forget a thing :)!

Catch up!

Oh my. I am so behind on blogging. Life seems to be moving at such a fast pace and I'm doing everything I can to keep us swimming. With the addition to the holidays, it seems I'm bathing and tucking little ones in bed before I even know what's hit me and the day is over.

Saylor turned 13 months this past Saturday, so I am hoping to get a post up this week. She is trying her best to take off walking, and I am enjoying the last few moments of chasing a crawler and not a walker. She seems to be turning into a toddler overnight and it is breaking this momma's heart. They grow SO fast.
Chloe lost her first tooth and the tooth fairy paid a visit to our house (oh the excitement of a 5 year old over losing a tooth!).

Alex, our elf, has landed at our home and has been in to nightly mischief. Our milk has been turned red from magic Christmas powers, words have been spelled out in m&m's, letters have been left, and he has been finding fun hiding places each night.

I've been shopping, decorating and getting our house in the spirit. Sean and I have really enjoying the holidays this year and are looking forward to watching little faces light up on Christmas morning.

And a few pictures as we are enjoying the holidays around the Branch house...

Home.

We're alive. And home. And getting in the Christmas spirit.

We flew in from St. Lucia late last night and arrived home a little after 3 am. Exhausted is definitely an understatement for today.

A big thanks to ShuShu and Nana for keeping the girls this past week while we were away celebrating Melanie and Danny's island wedding.

We are glad to be home! Cheers!

Catch up and Phone dump.

It's Friday and another week has flown by. We are gearing up for the holidays and lots of travels coming up. We'll be spending Thanksgiving in Charleston with family then flying to St. Lucia the next week for a dear friend's wedding. As soon as we return, I imagine we will jump in to Christmas full steam ahead.

Saylor has been sick as a dog the past few weeks and the cough got so bad this past weekend, we ended up at the pediatrician Monday morning. They sent us home with a nebulizer and we were told to do treatments twice a day. The first few rounds of treatments were hard, pitiful and heartbreaking for this momma. Saylor just didn't quite understand what was going on. It has gotten much better throughout the week, though, and we went back in to see the doctor this morning. He said she looks and sounds much better, to move the treatments to once a day, and hopefully we should be good to go. Praying baby girl is on the mend.

Sean and I started watching the Friday Night Lights series about 6 weeks ago and finished the series last night. Best. Show Ever. Hands down. Today, I am mourning the loss of it being over. Texas forever.
I've been doing some Christmas shopping and am feeling pretty good not to be stressed out about it. I've gotten quite a few things here and there, which puts us about half way done with shopping. Love that.

Baby Branch is growing and as of this week, my belly has officially popped out (see recent bump photo here). I feel the little fella move around quite a bit more, especially in the evenings when we lay down to relax. Sean hasn't felt him yet, but I am sure it will be soon. His twists and kicks are getting stronger. Momma is also hungrier these days! I seem to be starving all the time. Oink.

I am so excited about all the new babies joining us in 2012! I have many sweet friends all having babies right around the same time as me, as well as my brother and sister-in-law welcoming their first in May. I heard from one of my dearest friends yesterday that our little boy will be having a girlfriend come April. I am SO excited for them and can't wait to meet their little angel.

And because it's been a little while since I have done one, here is my iphone photo dump friday:

Happy weekend, yall.

If...

This is going around the blog world :)

Fill in the blanks....

If I were to get pregnant again...I am pregnant again!

If I could have any job in the world...I am doing exactly what I love. I love being at stay at home mom. Would love to plan weddings on the side, if time allowed with littles.

If I had a day to myself... I would read a book in the sunshine. Get a pedicure. Who knows what else.

If I could get married all over again...I wouldn't change a thing. Our wedding day was absolutely perfect.

If I could live anywhere in the US... I wouldn't live in Columbia! This is the hottest place ever, ha!

If my girl would have been boy they would have been named... Baker. We'll find out in a few weeks if baby #2 is a girl or boy, and if it's a boy, Baker it will be.

If I could have any talent in the world...I would sing!

If you met me in real life... Most of you know me in real life :)!

If I could go back to school and get a different degree... Considering I don't use my degree, I'm not really sure.

If money was no object... I have no idea!

If I could meet one celebrity, it would be... Carrie Underwood

If I could shop at only one store the rest of my life...Nordstrom

If we were to get another pet it would be... NO more pets at the Branch household for awhile. We are currently at capacity with 2 dogs and a cat!

If I could go on a trip right now... I would go to the mountains and enjoy a lovely fall weekend.

If I had to choose between a house cleaner and a personal chef...  I enjoy cooking more than cleaning, so i'd go with house cleaner.

If I had the option of plastic surgery.. yes please! Body changes post baby are no joke!

I will never forget.

I was one of the few people that didn't know right away. I didn't watch the first or second plane hit live. I had no idea until almost 3 hours later.

I was a sophomore at Appalachian State and had a world history exam that day. I headed to the library very early that morning and found a quiet, back corner to study. I stayed in that corner until my exam at 11am, thus completely unaware of the morning's events. As I headed into class, I heard the buzzing of other students, tears, and the unknowns. Our professor came in and cancelled our class and sent us all on our way.

I remember so vividly being confused. I walked across campus back to where I lived with my sorority, and walked in to a lobby full of very scared girls. And there we sat. All day. Long into the evening. Staring at the images. Scared, unsure, praying, and making phone calls to everyone we loved.

It is a day burned deep into my memory. And today, the emotions I felt were raw. They were real. They stirred inside me and churned at my core. At first I couldn't pin point what it was that brought the emotions back so fierce and then it hit me. I am a mom. 10 years ago, I wasn't, and although it affected me deeply, it affected me even deeper today. I sat in church this morning, surrounded by local service men and women in uniforms, singing Amazing Grace, and watching the images on the screen, and my heart broke in two. It's not just about me anymore. I have littles to protect. Littles who will grow up in this same world that I did. How do we protect them? How do we teach them about this world? The good, the bad, and even the evil.

I was reminded of our mighty Lord. He was there in 2001. He was in the towers that morning. At the pentagon. On United 93. He was with all of us, as we watched the images and held on a little tighter to those around us. He was there. And today, He was there. Wrapping His arms around each of us as we prayed and sang of his grace and mercy.

And that's what we teach our littles. About life. About love. About holding on to those we love a little tighter. About the way our nation joined together and became more united that day. About the brave men and women who gave their life for people like us. And about a God who never leaves us, despite it all.

I am proud to be an American.

My chains are gone
I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine
- Amazing Grace (my chains are gone)

Lately...

We have been so busy! So busy, in fact, I can't remember the last time I posted. We are nearing the end of summer and I have been burning up the highway the past few weeks.

Saylor turned 9 months last Wednesday (post coming this Wednesday, after her doctor's appt) and I had my birthday this past weekend. My sweet hubs surprised me with a trip to Bald Head Island the end of September for my birthday, and I am beyond thrilled! We spent last week at my parent's house, then I hit the road this past weekend for my friend's bachelorette party in Atlanta.

Chloe starts kindergarten this week, so we are spending these last few days running errands and getting organized before she heads to school (and boy, is she excited!)

Saylor is saying "mama," "uh-oh," and "dada" and it might be the cutest thing ever.

Just a quick catch up... Happy Monday, friends!

Just some thoughts...

  • This summer is flying by. I cannot believe it is already almost the end of June. The weather in Cola has been ridiculously hot and the gnats and mosquitos are out of control. We have spent many days in the pool or having play dates inside. It is just too hot to be outside without water nearby.
  • We are heading out of town on Thursday for a very special weekend. My sweet brother is getting married on Saturday! We are looking forward to the festivities and celebrating with the newlyweds!
  •  After the wedding weekend, me and the girls will be spending a few days at the lake before heading to the beach for the 4th. Sean's birthday is July 4th, so we always spend that week as a family beachin' it. This year, some sweet friends will be joining us for a few days to ring in the holiday. I'm looking forward to the sunshine, the salt air and some relaxation.
  • Speaking of needing some relaxation, I am officially exhausted. I was chatting with my mom the other day, telling her that I wasn't feeling quite right, and I think it's due to just pure exhaustion. We have been some serious road warriors this summer, and all the driving and traveling has really worn me out.
  • My sweet husband brought these home for me yesterday. What a nice surprise. I am loving sunflowers this summer.

  • We spent the past weekend planting at our house and I love how it is turning out. Our yard makes me smile when I pull up :).
  • My dear friend from college lost her mom to a 2 year battle with cancer a few weeks back. Please remember her in your prayers.
  • Anyone loving Pinterest as much as I am? I love having a place for great style and design ideas!
  • Saylor has officially moved to her room 100% of the time. She is sleeping like a charm in her crib, both at naps and at night time (praying I'm not speaking too soon, ha!). She has a little snuggie she likes to hold when she goes to sleep. Too cute. Here she is after her nap yesterday. Love her.

happy tuesday, friends, from our house to yours.

On the road again...

...I just can't wait to get on the road again.

Story of our life lately. We have been on the road the past 5 weekends, and will be on the road again this weekend.

We are home next weekend, Praise the Lord.

After that, we are on the road the next 6 weekends.

On the road again, I just can't wait to get on the road again stay home again.
